Academy investment at Gleneagles

Scottish resort and 2014 Ryder Cup host Gleneagles has invested in new all-weather turf technology to improve the facilities of its PGA National Golf Academy.

Synthetic turf supplier Huxley Golf, whose products are already used in the short game area at Gleneagles has supplied a 250 square yard area of its Premier Tee Turf 2 for the main practice tee playing surface.

Gleneagles senior golf professional Andrew Jowett said: “Guests are now afforded a far more realistic surface to hit balls from, delivering greater feel and feedback than ever before, with less artificial resistance than that provided by mats. The ability to tee balls to individually preferred heights offers greater flexibility and, again a more realistic golfing environment.  Feedback has been overwhelmingly supportive.”

Scott Fenwick, the resort’s golf courses and estate manager, added: “The tee surface requires very little maintenance from the greenkeeping staff with no filler being required due to the dense pile. This affords the green staff more time to spend on the golf course.”
