Carnoustie's Buddon is redesigned

UK design firm Mackenzie & Ebert has been appointed to advise the Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee on improvements to the three courses on the famous Scottish links.

The project includes consideration of changes to a number of holes on the Championship course, as well as six proposed green redesigns on the Burnside, course. The immediate focus, though, is on the Buddon course: the Links Management Committee has begun construction of a Pro Centre for visiting golfers which lies on part of the first hole of the Buddon, resulting in the opening hole being removed from the layout.

The first phase of the project will include the addition of two holes on land at the far end of the course which will increase the par of the layout from 66 to 68. The designers say the new holes could have great ecological benefit through the creation of wetlands, ponds and new areas of heathland.
