Double hundred for Nicklaus

Each hole at Red Ledges offers views of the Rockies

Nicklaus Design has opened its 200th course in the US. Red Ledges, a private club in Heber City, Utah, opened on Independence Day, 4 July, forty years since Harbour Town in South Carolina, which Nicklaus co-designed with Pete Dye, became his firm’s first significant design credit.

Each hole of the 7,653 yard course offers views of the Rocky Mountains. “Since the topography of the Red Ledges area is so stunning and diverse, we were challenged to stay true to the Red Ledges vision by planning each hole around its natural surroundings,” said Nicklaus. “We were able to nestle some holes around the famous sandstone ledges and situate other holes in juniper groves. I am delighted with how the course has turned out.”

“I am amazed that in just two years since the ground-breaking, Red Ledges will open what we believe will be the finest course in the West,” said Tony Burns, the course’s managing owner and former Ryder Systems CEO. “We are thankful to our many partners, and especially to Jack Nicklaus, who have helped make our vision come to life and excited for our members to play the course earlier than expected.”

The Red Ledges course is managed by Troon Golf, and will eventually include a nine hole Nicklaus Design short course and a Jim McLean Golf School.
