Dye returns to Harbour Town

Architect Pete Dye has completed a renovation programme at Harbour Town in South Carolina.

The course, which has hosted the PGA’s Tour’s annual Heritage event since 1969, originally opened in 1967. Always considered a relatively short course on Tour, Dye’s latest changes have added 150 yards of length, meaning the back tees now stretch to over 7,100 yards.

A handful of trees have also been removed to improve sightlines and a number of bunkers have been reshaped or extended to bring hazards back into play. 

“Pete Dye is a dear friend of Sea Pines and his name and legacy are intrinsically tied to this resort. We are honoured he returned to prepare Harbour Town for the next chapter in its colourful history,” said Cary Corbitt, director of Sea Pines Resort’s sports division.

“Harbour Town made my career,” said Dye, who defined the changes needed to the course during an onsite evaluation in early 2011.
