First Scottish course for Monty

Rowallan Castle Golf Club in Scotland officially opened for play on 3 May.

The first signature design project for 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie in his home country, Rowallan is located near Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. European Golf Design’s Ross McMurray was the lead architect on the project.

McMurray said: “I am very pleased with the way the golf course has developed. Much of the site was designated as Historic Landscape so we had to adopt a highly sensitive approach to the golf course design to ensure that it blended sympathetically with its surroundings. By using a traditional design style and concentrating much of the feature shaping on green complexes and bunker formations we have created a golf course with a strong sense of character which responds to this wonderful setting. It is pleasing to the eye and I’m sure it will be fun to play.”
