Politicians of all colours approve new Städler project in city of Paderborn.
German design firm Städler Golf Courses and contractor Brehmer Golfplatzbau have broken ground on a new 18-hole course in the city of Paderborn.
Städler architect Achim Reinmuth is in charge of the design of Golfclub Haxterpark, which has been in planning for four years. Conor Walsh, formerly of DMK Golf Design, is the lead shaper, following up from his work on the Castle course in St Andrews, Machrihanish Dunes and gWest, all in Scotland. The construction budget is in the region of €2 million. Construction is expected to be complete by spring 2011, with a soft opening in the autumn. The 58 hectare site, which belongs to the Catholic Church, has been leased to the operators for thirty years, although the lease includes an option for renewal.
The project has been embraced by local politicians of all colours, winning endorsement by a large majority of city councillors, including Green members. “Golf is no longer an elitist sport, and this facility is a win for Paderborn,” said Green politician Vera Esders.
