Hoylake golf resort project launched

Plans have been announced for a new upmarket golf resort close to the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in north-west England.

Wirral Council, which owns much of the land to the east of the Royal Liverpool course – which will once again host the Open Championship in 2014 – is looking for a commercial partner to develop the resort on a 333 acre site behind the Hoylake municipal course, which was used as the practice range for the most recent Open at Royal Liverpool.

The council has tried to find a partner for such a development before, but when the idea was previously floated, at the MIPIM real estate conference in 2008, no firm came forward.

Cllr Ann McLachlan, deputy leader of Wirral Council said: “The land we have earmarked near Hoylake through a Capita Symonds feasibility study sits in large part within Council ownership and although this is just a vision at present, we would like to find out what interest there is out there to bring a project of this scale forward.”

Council director of regeneration Kevin Adderley told a press conference: “We want developers to share our vision for a world-class facility to rival those at the K-Club and Celtic Manor.” He claimed the project was attracting significant attention from developers around the world.
