A multi-million pound improvement programme to improve the playability of the golf course at MacGregor Downs Country Club is underway.

MacGregor Downs is home to an 18-hole Willard C. Byrd design and located in Cary, North Carolina. The club was purchased by Concert Golf Partners from its members earlier this year.

Thanks to the Concert Golf Partners acquisition, the club was able to retire all debt and eliminate member assessments permanently. The purchase has coincided with a jump in membership, and feedback to an early round of improvements on the course has been positive.

“We are thrilled to see the wonderful reaction to our new improvements from MacGregor members who in the past had to wait years for capital investments at their club,” said Concert Golf chairman Peter Nanula. “Now, with no debt and access to funding, members have spoken up about what they want at MacGregor, and our multi-million dollar improvement programme is underway.”

Plans include solving the issue of overgrown trees, and the raising of the canopy is essential to the club’s efforts to restore the course to its original design.

Other planned improvements include the installation of improved varieties of bermudagrass on both fairways and collars, the modernisation of irrigation control system, and improved irrigation coverage.

New drainage installations are also set to be carried out, cart traffic will be redirected to minimise turf impact, and an ongoing wet well/pump house project will be continued.

An evaluation of golf course architects for future renovation projects is also taking place. To date, no architect has been selected.
