Plans have been announced for a new golf course, as part of a larger resort development, in the central belt of Scotland.

The Kersewell Resort will be built on a 485 acre site near the village of Carnwath in Lanarkshire, on the southern edge of the Pentland Hills. Scottish-based New Zealand architect Scott Macpherson has been contracted to design the course, in collaboration with two-time Major champion Sandy Lyle. A number of lodges will be built as part of the result, which will also include a hotel, spa and indoor swimming facilities.

Outline planning permission has already been granted; an application for detailed consent will be filed in the near future. Macpherson told GCA he hoped to start construction in the second quarter of 2012. The 7,300 yard course is expected to open in 2014.

Landowner and developer Derek Young said he expected the resort would create around 600 jobs when complete. The project cost is estimated at £125 million.
