Construction of a new nine-hole course on the site of the former Colwood National in Portland, Oregon, has been completed.

The new par-3 layout at the Colwood Golf Center is now open for play and has been designed by John Zoller, the Portland Parks & Recreation golf manager.

The Colwood Golf Center also includes a driving range and practice facilities, and is part of the First Tee programme, which encourages youth participation in the game of golf.

Each hole of the course offers two tees and two holes, and the average length of each hole is 136 yards.

Portland Parks & Recreation acquired the site in early 2014, and the centre is being operated by golf course management company Kemper Sports.

Speaking to GCA in July 2014, Randy Morrison, general manager of the Colwood Golf Center, said: “The new course will cater to the golfer and beginner alike, with various tees to choose from, as well as large greens which will have varying degrees of difficulty on different sections. This will allow for two simultaneous pin placements on each green so players can choose which pins they want to play.”
