Nine more holes at Kazan

The existing nine at Kazan

Dubai-based design firm Harradine Golf is to add a second nine holes at the Golf and Country Club Kazan in the Russian republic of Tatarstan.

The first nine holes in Kazan were completed in 2008 and opened by Rustam Minnikhanov, now the republic’s president. The golf course sits on a plateau with views over the Volga, Svajia and Sulitsa rivers. The nearby Sviazhk Island features the Troytskaya wooden church, which was built on the personal orders of Tsar Ivan the Terrible in the sixteenth century.

The new nine will stretch to 3,350 metres from the back tees. “It will be even more spectacular than the first nine, because of the higher elevation and extraordinary scenery,” said Peter Harradine. “A generous land allocation by the developer has made it possible to allocate ample areas between the fairways, which will allow the indigenous vegetation and wild flora to flourish in the rough. Multiple tees on each hole will allow good golfers, beginners and ladies alike to enjoy the course.”

The complex also includes several hotels and chalets and is used as a ski resort in winter.
