New Zealand will get another new golf course later this year, with a nine hole project set to open overlooking Lake Tekapo in the South Island.
Tekapo is on the edge of the Mount Cook National Park. A new residential subdivision, The Cairns, is being developed in the town, and the golf course is a part of that development. Developer Andrew Simpson told the Timaru Herald that the course had been designed by his brother in law, Barry Johnston, and Simon Forshaw, the superintendent of the Jack’s Point course in Queenstown.
Work on the course started last year, and Simpson told the newspaper he hope it would open this November. “It's certainly something a bit different; the course will be a bit of a challenge,” he said. “There are good, natural features, and there have been no earthworks done to design the course.”
