Rapid progress at Cypriot resort

The course's eleventh green

The reconstruction and expansion of the Secret Valley golf course in Cyprus is well underway, with the first of two eighteen hole courses expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Local firm Aristo Developments acquired Secret Valley, and is turning into a larger resort, to be known as Venus Rock, intended to be one of Europe’s largest beachfront residential projects, including around 3,000 homes, a retail/leisure complex with over 15,000 sq m of seafront commercial space and a beach hotel.

Austrian firm Golf & Land Design is in charge of the two golf courses. Architect Hans-Georg Erhardt said that, because of the mature vegetation in the valley, the golf course will have a unique setting within Cyprus. Erhardt and his colleague Snorri Vilhjalmsson have laid out the holes using the steep hillside terrain for tee locations and long views towards valley and ocean.

Using and detailed grading plans, French construction company Benedetti is handling the construction. Rough earthworks are completed, fine shaping is in full motion, irrigation lakes have been lined, pumps are installed and the first set of holes is being grassed. Completion of the first course is scheduled for the end of this year.

The existing Secret Valley clubhouse will serve the first new course while a new and larger clubhouse will be built for the second course. A floodlight three hole loop for evening play will be located at the lower end of the golf course where it links with the beach development. Both courses will be branded as Tony Jacklin signature designs.
