Shadow Hills par three course opens

The north course's third hole

Management firm Billy Casper Golf and developer Del Webb have opened the final nine holes of the north course at the Shadow Hills club in California’s Coachella Valley.

Laid out by Grant Haserot of Schmidt-Curley Design, the par three course is located in the third phase of Del Webb’s Sun City Shadow Hills. The developers say the course has been constructed to take advantage of natural plant materials which consume less water, and to promote ecologically-friendly agronomic practices.

The holes range from 135-210 yards. Approximately 40 per cent of the course is turf, while the rest comprises several water features, exposed sand and natural desert areas.

“We created a unique look and feel to the Coachella Valley by incorporating natural desert areas into the design rather than a wall to wall carpet of unblemished turf,” said lead designer Grant Haserot.

“This course is a perfect mix of water efficiency, diverse play and natural beauty,” said Ryan Stremsrud, the club’s general manager. “A par three layout is much friendlier and less time consuming than a full-length course, especially for new golfers.”
