Tunis redesign for Harradine

Design firm Harradine Golf has been appointed to a redesign project in Tunisia.

The firm was commissioned in 2006 to design an eighteen hole course near Lake Tunis. “The layout was rather complicated as the two loops were cut in two by a major road which crossed the entire site,” said Peter Harradine. “Furthermore, the commercial requirements of the real estate reduced the attraction and viability of the golf course. Additional concerns due to the proposed Metro line, future roads and land availability jeopardised the sustainability of the masterplan and the project itself.”

The complete masterplan has now been redrawn, largely because of the global economic situation and the specific conditions prevailing in the Tunisian market.

Harradine has therefore been asked to redesign the layout, reducing the original 18 holes to a 9 holes layout

“These new circumstances have allowed us to solve many of the previous problems and the course is now on one side of the road with a substantially reduced and more sustainable real estate area. The new proposal includes a beautiful and centrally located clubhouse and generous practice facilities,” said Harradine.

The 3,502 yard course will be floodlit. Due to ecological concerns about the high water table, the course has been designed to minimise runoff and the use of nutrients, with the aim of enhancing and encouraging existing and new fauna and flora.
