Weybrook plans further rebuilding

Weybrook Park Golf Club in Hampshire, England, is planning the next stage of its development.

The course, which was opened in the 1990s and designed largely by its members, has been undergoing a reconstruction programme under the supervision of Scottish architect Ken Moodie for the last two years. The project has been self-financing, as local landfill firm Earthline has provided inert material from construction sites, which Moodie has used to build the new holes.

With that project, which affected the back nine, now close to completion, the club has filed a planning application with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to redevelop the front nine. The project, expected to take three years to complete, would see four holes completely moved, five existing greens rebuilt and a new practice putting green constructed. Moodie, principal of Creative Golf Design, has done the design work for the planning application.

The club said: “The existing front nine holes of the golf course were designed by members and built with an extremely limited budget. As such, the existing holes fall short of the standards expected by members and visitors.” The project aims to address a lack of variation in the course’s par four holes, and to make it more playable for junior, senior and lady golfers. The council has promised a decision on the application by 6 April.
