Robert Berthet is a registered golf teacher and a graduate of Paris School of Architecture. He is also a member of the Environment Committee of the French Golf Federation.ARCHIGOLF - the practice Robert created in 1978 - has, by now, realised, enlarged or remodelled 45 golf courses, designed clubhouses and technical buildings, as well as participated in many city-planning studies. Robert Berthet considers that a golf course is a tool for town planning. A golf course can allow the rehabilitation of dumps, quarries and other derelict places in very attractive aesthetic and cost conditions. A golf course is not a piece of nature but a landscape and, can also be the frame of a park, thus fully playing its part in bettering the quality of life of the community.Robert believes that the selection of a ‘landscaping theme’ for the course design is a sound way to enhance the site’s characteristics and ensure the uniqueness of each project. Such a golf course can be a strong communication medium for the promoter, being a ‘signature’ course.Under increasing ecological constraints, Robert Berthet has developed a strong know how in the environmental authorisation process, adding an important value to the architect’s usual mission.
