Bruno Steensels became a golf course architect in 1987 and founded Mastergolf in 1997.

Because of the firm's steady growth he decided that expanding was the only option. In 2009, he partnered with Johan Vandeweghe, who became the new company's new general manager, and with Cees van Nieuwenhuizen, now project architect. Johan previously worked for five years as a special advisor and consultant to several golf-related projects in Greece and the Balkans. Cees spent the last four years as design coordinator for Nicklaus Design in Murcia, Spain, where he executed seven projects.

For signature co-design, Mastergolf International cooperates with Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Rory Mcilroy, Paul McGinley and David Howell, all part of Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler’s ISM stable.

Concerning golf course architecture MasterGolf International offers a full new course design service, as well as restyling and renovation for existing courses. More pre and post-design services are offered in this new constellation. MasterGolf International has executed over 70 golf projects and is still growing steadily in the European and world golf markets. New projects are slated in Turkey, France, Eastern Europe and Africa.
