Issue 17, July 2009

This issue is packed with great stories about exciting new or renovated golf courses. Prime among them is the stunning Castle Stuart links in the north of Scotland, which has just officially opened. We have an exclusive interview with developer (and co-designer) Mark Parsinen – in which Mark reveals for the first time his hope of attracting a future Open Championship to Castle Stuart.

And the links golf doesn’t stop there. In our On Site section, we visit Budersand and Föhr in Germany, both of which are trying to spread the gospel of the links, and the newly-opened Links course at the PGA of Sweden National development outside Malmo. It’s been a busy time.

Elsewhere, Steve Pope investigates the legacy of Pioneer architect George Lowe, the original creator of Royals Lytham and Birkdale, we are the first golf publication to see the site of the Patiño family's 'new Valderrama' course in Spain, and we investigate whether landfill can transform the economics of golf development.
