America’s oldest golf club, the Saint Andrew’s club, in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, has announced plans to commemorate 125 years of golf in America with a gala evening on 8 June 2013 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City.

All net proceeds from the event will benefit the First Tee of Metropolitan New York, a youth development organisation that teaches important life skills and core values to youngsters through the game of golf.

Saint Andrew's is the oldest golf club in the country, dating back to 1888, and one of the five founding member clubs of the United States Golf Association.

“As a membership, we wanted to use our 125th anniversary as an opportunity to not only celebrate this milestone, but also give back to the broader golf community to which Saint Andrew’s belongs,” said club president Victor von Klemperer. “Rather than simply organizing an anniversary celebration for ourselves, we have decided to structure this event to include a charitable element, which we believe endows it with an even greater purpose and wider significance.”
