A new golf course is being planned for a previously undeveloped part of southern Spain.

The 36-hole Los Vélez course has been proposed by the Junta de Andalucia (the regional government) as part of a residential development in the village of Vélez-Rubio, approximated 100km west of the city of Murcia, in Almeria province.

The two golf courses are to be built on a 140 hectare plot of land, and accompanied by a hotel with more than 180 bedrooms and over 1,000 villa and apartment units, plus shops, a spa and schools.

The project is estimated to have a construction cost of €10.4 million, and the proposers are looking for around 500 members to purchase shares to defray this cost.
