The new Wave golf course in Muscat, the capital of Oman, will open for play in December.

Designed by Greg Norman’s firm, the course is part of a US$3 billion integrated tourism development, including hotels, housing and a marina. CEO Michael Lenarduzzi said: “With an aim to position Oman as an international golfing destination and further develop the sport among local enthusiasts, today we are one step closer to hosting some of the world’s top golfing tournaments here in the Sultanate. The course landscaping is maturing ahead of schedule.”

The course has been built by contractor Southern Golf Oman, while Dubai Golf has recently been appointed as operator.

The 6,675 metre course incorporates native species of dune grasses, shrubs and trees in an attempt to reduce the water requirements in such an arid landscape. The developers say that both irrigation lakes have been successfully excavated by applying sustainable techniques for recycling water through a strategic partnership with Oman Waste Water Services and Haya Water.
