British practice Swan Golf Designs is heading to Africa this month. The firm has been asked to pay a visit to the Royal Golf Club Kumasi in Ghana to provide an appraisal of the club’s golf course, with a view to later conduction a renovation.

Kumasi, located 250km northwest of the Ghanaian capital, Accra, is the hometown of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and is known as Ghana’s ‘garden city’. The Royal Golf Club course is currently around 6,300 yards long, and is described as not being up to international standards; the Swan project aims to fix this problem, and bring greater recognition of golf within Ghana, and to help the country become known as a golf destination within Africa.

The project also aims to provide greater access to golf for local talent, through the provision of comprehensive training facilities to sit alongside the main golf course. In addition to the upgraded course, the project will include the provision of a five star hotel, which will incorporate the clubhouse, together with a conference centre.
