A planned new golf course has been announced for the Filipino city of San Jose del Monte.

The developer, the Vicente G Puyat group of companies has not yet named anarchitect for the project, which will be part of a 1,000 hectare development and will also see the construction of a landfill site.

Company president Raymund Puyat told the Philippine Star: “Not all landfills are dirty to the environment. We are introducing a different thing in our project.”

The site, which has proved to be controversial amongst residents, will also accommodate a hotel and wakeboard park to attract tourism.

Reynaldo San Pedro, the mayor of San Jose del Monte has asked residents to wait to see the results of the development before criticising it.

San Pedro went on to say the landfill would help the city with its sanitation – something which has been a big problem in the past.
