A new golf course in County Kerry, Ireland, designed by Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects, is to be unveiled later this year.

Hogs Head Golf Club has been created near the town of Waterville, on headlands standing above the Atlantic Ocean.

The course is the first in Ireland designed by the RTJ II firm, and has been built on a sand-capped site and planted with three varieties of fescue grasses – all of which are native to the Irish coast.

“We have incorporated all the great elements of golf that people seek when they come to Ireland,” said Robert Trent Jones, Jr. “Hogs Head is a golf course that will fascinate you and hold your interest every time you play it. We provided multiple choices of how to play many of the holes, given the weather of the day. It will be different every day with that hidden dimension of variable winds.”

Holes eight to sixteen are routed along the edge of 100 foot coastal bluffs, while the course’s inland holes navigate the Finglas River.

“The owner’s vision is to create a championship calibre golf course equal to Irelands unsurpassed passion for the game of golf, a passion we wholeheartedly share,” Jones said. “Our working motto has been, ‘built by friends, for friends, for fun.’ And we know this course will deliver the fun.”
