What could be India’s first oceanfront golf course has been granted planning permission by the state government of Karnataka.

The new course, to be built at Tannirbavi beach, near the mouth of the Phalguni river outside the city of Mangalore, has been budgeted at Rs 100 crore (US$22 million). A fifty bedroom five star hotel is also part of the plans.

The 100 acre site is controlled by the Karnataka Department of Tourism, which is currently evaluating proposals from private developers to build and operate the golf resort. Contracts are expected to be awarded in the near future.
