The design firm of double Major winner Angel Cabrera is on schedule to open its first course design project in January 2014.

Angel Cabrera Design has been hired by Alejandro Bulgheroni to work on an extensive remodelling of the Los Tajamares Golf Club, part of the Agroland estate near Punta Del Este in Uruguay, of which Bulgheroni is president.

The course’s tees, bunkers and greens are being rebuilt and fairways rerouted, raised and lowered. The course will stretch to more than 7,000 yards.

“My goal is to create one of the world’s best golf courses on a unique property in partnership with an owner who shares a special vision,” said Cabrera. “I’m very fortunate to have such an opportunity. South America is a prime area for growth in golf and I look forward to more projects with owners who have the same expectation of excellence.”

Angel Cabrera Design will work with golf architect Mike Angus, on the project, and has hired Landscapes Unlimited to manage the construction. Work at the course is being carried out by local contractors and workers.
