The annual conference of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects will take place in Malmö this year, the first time the event has been held in Scandinavia.

Europe’s leading golf course architects will descend on the Swedish city for the conference, which will take place on 26 April. With a steady growth of interest in the game in Nordic and Scandinavian countries, the conference will provide an opportunity for a discussion of the reasons for the growth.

One of the topics participants and speakers will be keen to discuss is the specific challenges contractors, designers and golf course managers face when working in the region.

Amongst the list of headline speakers are Agnar Kvalbein, an agricultural and environmental researcher and consultant, whose talks include Drainage Versus Surface Water Control and Winter Injuries on Golf Greens.

Peter Fjällman, EIGCA vice president and one of the event's organisers, commented: “The sport here has quite a short but very successful history, and we have planned a wide range of speakers to look at the way the game has developed in the last 20 or 30 years.”
