Angus Council in Scotland has granted outline planning approval for a new golf resort at Wellbank, just outside Dundee. The project is valued at £55 million.

Backed by local businessman Mike Forbes, the owner of the nearby Kingennie resort, the new project will include an eighteen hole golf course, branded as a Darren Clarke signature design. Graeme Webster of Team Niblick, who also designed the Kingennie course for Forbes, will be the lead architect. The resort is also slated to include homes, holiday lodges, a spa and a hotel.

Councillors, who voted by 15 to seven to approve the project, were told it could inject more than £10 million a year into the local economy. The planned hotel will be the first five star facility in the Dundee region, and will be only a few miles away from the Carnoustie links. Detailed planning consent will be needed before construction can start.
