Rory McIlroy’s home course, Holywood Golf Club in Northern Ireland, is to undergo the latest stage of a ten year plus renovation programme.

Consulting architects Swan Golf Designs have been working at Holywood, which overlooks Belfast Lough in County Down, for several years, and are now returning to update the remainder of the course. This will involve the redesign of bunkers on the remaining nine holes and a complete redesign of the tenth.

The project at Holywood complements SGD’s work at clubs throughout Northern Ireland, including Clandeboye, Massereene, County Armagh, Shandon Park and Donaghadee. William Swan said: “Keeping ahead of the game is of vital importance to the success of any club. Holywood started with an audit of the course, where its design, performance and condition was assessed. From this initial exercise undertaken at modest cost, the club has seen undoubted improvements which have been appreciated by all.”

The Holywood project is due to continue for the next three years to a conclusion in 2013.
