American developer McConnell Golf has acquired its fourth course, the Tom Fazio-designed Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, North Carolina. Old North has been rated the best private course in the state for the last seven years by the North Carolina Golf Panel.

The addition of Old North gives McConnell its second Fazio design and its closest course yet to the Charlotte metro area. “We are honoured to add Old North to our portfolio. It is a very good fit geographically with what we are trying to accomplish in creating a regional company dedicated to championship golf,” said CEO and founder John McConnell. “Most golfers recognise it as the premier private golf course in the state, so this means a lot to us. We will continue with the tradition of excellence that has always been associated with this property.”

“We were very concerned with the transition of the club and wanted to ensure that the buyer would be able to deliver the same high quality service and amenities that our membership has become accustomed to,” said Old North GM Bob Nock. “This is a special place and the membership here takes pride in being part of one of the best private clubs in the country. McConnell was an easy choice for us because of the reputation they have built over the last five years. Everybody in the industry is watching this organisation.”
