Jack Nicklaus’ firm is to redesign The Experience at Koele golf course on the island of Lanai in Hawaii.

A Ted Robinson course with Greg Norman as signature designer, Nicklaus’ team will reposition the back nine so that they become the front nine, ensuring the course footprint remains the same.

The course is set in pine forests on the island of Lanai, one of the smallest in Hawaii and located 45 minutes from the nearby larger island of Maui.

The front nine at Koele is set on mainly level ground, while the back nine climbs into the forests and golfers face the challenges of tree-filled canyons and big drops onto the greens.

Nicklaus’ firm is behind the design of Koele’s sister course, The Challenge at Manele.

Work on the par 72 course is set to be completed later in the year and will include new fairways, bunkers and greens.
