PinPoint debuts virtual flythroughs

PinPoint Visualisation, the company behind the three-dimensional flythroughs shown during ESPN and NBC’s coverage of the Ryder Cup, has launched a new package enabling golf courses to use the same technology to promote their facilities.

PinPoint says its technology, as well as being used to map golf courses for high definition broadcast images, can help promote golf courses on the web or DVDs and can also be used for printed material such as course guides and scorecards.

TV companies have been using helicopter flythroughs to illustrate holes during tournament coverage for some time, but PinPoint says its computer-generated versions are significantly more cost-effective. The films can cover all of a course’s facilities, not just fairways and greens. The images can be used in any multimedia format, including the iPhone.
