German developer TUI will open the second course at its Castelfalfi resort in Tuscany, Italy, in the spring.
Architects Rainer Preißmann and Wilfried Moroder completed work on the Lake course at Castelfalfi last November. The first course at the resort, the Mountain course opened in 2010. The hilltop village is being refurbished to provide the resort buildings, and a number of villas around the estate are available for purchase.
Preißmann said: “We are proud of what we and everybody involved achieved. The incredible landscape still leaves us in awe. It became clear at the design stage of the golf course that the landscape must be respected. We did not want to add artificial elements that would reduce the whole experience to just a golf course.”
The nine hole Lake course has been routed to allow the addition of another nine when demand allows it. This would take the resort to 36 holes. German firm Brehmer Golfplatzbau and Italian contractor Fratelli Bruno handled the construction work.
