Simon Gidman first became involved with golf course architecture when he joined Martin Hawtree’s firm in 1983. After establishing his own company in 1991, Gidman now provides specialised golf course architectural, planning and advisory services.
Simon Gidman Golf Course Architects (SGGCA) has developed a number of prestigious private and public courses throughout the UK and Europe in that time, including the recently-completed Centurion golf course at St. Albans, U.K. The course recently held the Golf Sixes European Tour event in spring 2017.
SGGCA has been involved in a number of recent projects in the U.K, including the new Ferrybridge G.C. (opened in 2017) in Yorkshire, the alterations to the Collingtree Park G.C. in Northampton, the adjustments to the Stover G.C. in Devon. The company are also involved with a number of projects involving housing and the impact this is having on the golf course.
Further afield, the company has been involved in the remodelling of the golf course at Hösel G.C. and Haan-Dusseltal G.C both nr Dusseldorf in Germany, and the company is also involved in major golf development in the Middle East, Western Africa and India.
Simon Gidman also visited and advised all but one of the golf courses in Ecuador and wrote about his experiences in Golf Course Architecture magazine.
