ASGCA releases 2018 list of ‘design excellence’ projects

The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) has released its 2018 list of Design Excellence Recognition Program honourees.

The seventh list of its kind highlights 11 recent projects completed by ASGCA member-architects that address unique design challenges as well as demonstrating innovation and problem-solving skills.

The list has been put together with input from representatives of the Club Managers Association of America, Golf Course Builders Association of America and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

The projects highlighted by the 2018 edition of the programme are:

Banyan Cay Resort & Golf, West Palm Beach, Florida (Jack Nicklaus, Chris Cochran and John Sanford)

Baylands Golf Links, Palo Alto, California (Forrest Richardson)

Boca Lago Country Club, Boca Raton, Florida (Jan Bel Jan)

• Braemar Golf Course, Edina, Minnesota (Richard Mandell)

City Park Golf Course, Denver, Colorado (Todd Schoeder)

• Golf Learning Facility at Harris Park, Kansas City, Missouri (Todd Clark)

The Preserve at Oak Meadows, Addison, Illinois (Greg Martin)

Sunset Valley Golf Club, Highland Park, Illinois (Rick Jacobson)

The Nest at Friday Harbour Resort, Ontario, Canada (Doug Carrick)

The South Course at Arcadia Bluffs, Arcadia, Michigan (Dana Fry and Jason Straka)

• Waters Edge Golf Course in Fremont, Michigan (Raymond Hearn)

“This is an impressive group of golf facilities, and I congratulate them and the architects they worked with on these projects,” said ASGCA president Jeff Blume. “Each year, the Design Excellence Recognition Program illustrates the art and science of golf course architecture that leads to facilities better-serving their communities and golfers. I have so much respect for what is shown in these projects.”

More details on each project will feature in upcoming editions of By Design, the ASGCA’s quarterly magazine published by the team responsible for Golf Course Architecture.
