Chris Wilczynski’s Clover nine takes shape at Killearn Club

MacCurrach Golf Construction is under way with work on the Chris Wilczynski-designed nine-hole Clover course at Killearn Club in Tallahassee, Florida.

The new layout, on land formerly used for the Narrows short course, is part of the architect’s masterplan for the private club, which has also included a renovation of the 18-hole Camellia layout and the practice facilities.

“As a child growing up in Killearn, we would exclusively play the North/Narrows course due to its availability and kid-friendly nature,” said Killearn’s owner David Cummings. “Now, with the new Clover course, it is the ultimate family-friendly golf outing. I’m excited for the next generation of golfers to develop their love of golf on the Clover.”

Wilczynski’s design for the Clover has five par-three holes and four short par fours. The layout has three tees on each hole, narrow tree-lined fairways, small greens, new TifTuf bermuda and a new irrigation system from Aqua Turf International.

“My vision for the Clover was to create short, fun and accessible holes that would complement the championship Camellia course and provide players with a totally unique golfing experience,” said Wilczynski. “The holes on this course are short so we took some creative risks with the design elements to give golfers the opportunity to challenge their shot-making skills. I think it’s going to be an exciting and popular component to the reimagined club.”

Construction of the Clover course is expected to be complete in May. The Camellia course will reopen in summer 2024.
