City of Memphis selects Marc Messier to renovate The Links at Pine Hill

The City of Memphis has selected Marc Messier of Messier Golf Design to lead renovation work at The Links at Pine Hill in Tennessee.

Messier was hired by the city’s park services following his work as lead architect for The Links at Whitehaven and assistant architect for The Links at Galloway, both located in Memphis.

Planned work at Pine Hill includes rerouting several holes due to the construction of a new clubhouse, as well as the introduction of new tees and greens throughout the course, the addition of two water features and a new driving range.

“The first, eighth, ninth, eleventh, twelfth and fifteenth are new,” said Messier. “The tenth, thirteenth, fourteenth and the final three holes use a portion of the same corridor but with different angles by changing tee and/or green locations. The remaining holes, two through seven, utilise the same tee, fairway and green locations but with changed hole numbers to make for a smoother routing.

“The reasoning behind the re-routing is two-fold. Firstly, with a new clubhouse being built in a new location, several holes have to be rerouted, and secondly is to increase safety between holes. The new layout will bring a welcome change to this municipal golf course, which is long overdue a renovation. Additionally, we have lengthened the course by nearly 250 yards and with two new water features and larger greens that have more undulations, it will become a more challenging layout as a result.”

All green complexes will be built to a USGA specification and tees will be built with square edges.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2022 with all grassing to be complete by June 2022.
