Construction progresses on Shangri-La’s new ‘The Battlefield’ par-three course

Construction is progressing on a new 18-hole par-three course called ‘The Battlefield’, designed by Tom Clark for the Shangri-La Resort in Oklahoma, USA.

Work began in August, having been delayed a year due to the pandemic, and will continue through into next year. Construction is being overseen by Dale Forrest of Tulsa-based construction firm United Golf, who has previously worked with Clark on the resort’s existing 27 holes.

“The project will be slightly removed from the main course and its clubhouse and will have its own club area with pro shop, event centre, golf car storage and maintenance, practice areas and a putting course,” said Clark.

Kevin Atkinson of Atkinson Design Group is assisting Clark with the project. “Kevin brings a lot of unique ideas to the forefront, and we keep discovering more and more site features, which we are bringing into play,” said Clark.

“This is all part of the dream of owner Eddy Gibbs, who brought back the initial course with a new clubhouse, new hotel, new marina, and a recently finished activity centre to make this one of the best resorts in the US.
