The Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club will officially re-open at the end of March, having been closed for over three years.

The resort in Carmel Valley, California, has been regenerated by Barry Design Associates of Santa Monica, California. The US$28 million renovation incorporates historic California and Spanish Colonial elements to provide a modern and distinctly classical Californian feel to the resort.

“Closing Quail Lodge was a difficult decision, but operations were not sustainable under the former business model and given the state of the economy in 2009,” said Sarah Cruse, general manager of Quail Lodge & Golf Club. “We have seen improvement in the economy and have thoughtfully developed a new business model that we believe will enable the resort to operate profitably. We are committed to bringing back to Carmel Valley a fresh and exciting destination that will attract leisure travellers and business groups from both near and far.”

The 850-acre site in the Carmel valley includes lakes, gardens and walking trails. The course, originally designed by the late Robert Muir Graves, has seen significant advancements and its management has been taken over by Illinois-based KemperSports, a specialist in golf, resort and sports facilities. “The members at Quail Lodge Golf Club have supported the facility for many years and we plan to continue the tradition of delivering a high-level club experience to the members and their guests,” said Steve Skinner, chief executive officer at KemperSports. “We look forward to welcoming Quail Lodge Golf Club into the KemperCollection, our network of clubs throughout the US.”

It is hoped that the improvements made to the golf course will complement the renovated facilities at the Quail Lodge will cover all guest needs. “With its newly renovated lodge, a player-friendly golf course and its advanced golf instruction program,” says Steve Skinner, “We believe the Quail Lodge Golf Club offers a unique golf and resort experience for golfers of all types as well as to groups looking for a resort offering golf, lodging and meeting facilities.”

The 93-room hotel in the resort is expected to open its doors on 26 March 2013.
