Move of army camp will free up land for expansion of Pahalgam course in Kashmir.

A golf course in the mountains of northern India may be heading for further development, after Indian Army officials agreed to move a camp from a site near the course.
The Pahalgam course, in the province of Jammu and Kashmir, is located at an elevation of 2,400 metres above sea level. The previous nine hole course was extended to eighteen holes in 2008 by Indian golf architect Ranjit Nanda.
Local army commanders agreed to the move to another site provided by the Pahalgam Development Authority. A spokesman said the land vacated would be used to develop the golf course to international standards. “The decision will pave way for the development of new infrastructure at the golf course and give a major boost to tourism,” the spokesman said.
