The second phase of a three-year master golf course restoration plan has been completed at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
The east nine has reopened for play, and marks the completion of the east-west rotation.
All tees and fairways have been replaced with celebration bermudagrass and the course’s bunkers now contain G angle sand.
Work has also been carried out on the course’s bridges, drainage, cart paths, bulkheads and irrigation.
Architect Robert Walker has led and overseen the work. The course was originally designed by Ed Seay, a former architect at Arnold Palmer’s design company. Walker previously worked with Seay at Palmer’s company during his own 12-year tenure at the firm, before setting up on his own in 1986.
The focus of the restoration plan will now shift to the club’s south nine, where work will begin next May with a scheduled completion date in Autumn 2015.
