Johnny Miller Design and Development has started work on a redesign of the North course at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California.
The work includes rebunkering, the addition of new tees which will take the course from 6,900 to 7,200 yards, and some fairway widening. There will be some tree removal and a turf renovation plan to minimise kikuya grass and allow the original mix of rye and Kentucky bluegrass to thrive.
The bunker renovation includes reshaping, new drainage and lining and the introduction of ‘brilliant’ white sand from Idaho. Miller, who also recently became a part-owner of the resort, told the Napa Valley Register: “What we did with the bunkering is put some movement into the holes so they’re not as straight any more. We really don’t even have one straight hole now. Now every hole has got some movement to it.” He added: “There’s not a lot of bunkers, but the ones that we put in are meaningful.”
The course is currently scheduled to re-open in April or May.
