European Golf Design has signed a deal with Papillon Hotels to build a Colin Montgomerie signature course in the Belek region of Turkey, near Antalya. The Montgomerie Course at Papillon Golf Club will form part of a new US$100 million golf and hotel complex. To complement the 18 hole championship golf course there will be a 9 hole short course and a golf academy, as well as a luxury five star hotel and up to 40 holiday villas which will join the four existing Papillon hotels in Belek.

Set within 104 hectares of mixed pine forest and ridges, the feel of the natural sandy ground will be maintained to develop the particular characteristics of the golf course.

EGD's courses with Montgomerie – such as that at Carton House near Dublin, home of the Irish Open for the last two years – have been built to be highly challenging layouts, and the firm says Papillon will be no different. Design work has already begun with construction due to commence later this year. The course is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2007.
