New public in DC region is ready for opening of full eighteen holes.
The new 1757 Golf Club in the Washington DC area will open in its entirety on 6 May.
The public course, designed by David Heatwole, formerly with Jack Nicklaus’s design company, opened a preview ten hole loop last year, and covers gently rolling terrain with elevation changes of up to 30 feet (10 metres) on each hole.
At 6,623 yards, the par 70 course is not long by modern standards, and, unusually, features a par three closing hole. The 165 yard eighteenth calls for a shot over water to a narrow green.
The horseshoe driving range, with 76 hitting stations, including 20 on grass and floodlit for night play – includes simulated fairways and target greens.
Named after the year Loudoun County was established, 1757 celebrates Virginia's presidential history with event rooms named after state natives George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and Woodrow Wilson.
