Nine holes of a new community golf course have opened for play at the Maleny Golf Club in Queensland, Australia.

The course has been designed by Graham Papworth of the GNP Golf Design firm.

The opening of the first nine holes marks the completion of the first stage of the project, which began way back in 2001 when plans to build a golf course on the site were first aired.

Construction began in March 2014 and an opening ceremony takes place 30 June to mark the completion of the first nine holes.

It is hoped that the second stage of the project – which involves the creation of nine more holes – will get underway next year.
