Modern Golf near Graz offers all-round play and will host range of community events.

Huxley Golf has completed work on a nine-hole, all-weather golf course near Graz, Austria.
The largest installation in the company’s history, ‘Modern Golf’ features all-weather tees, greens and fringes and is comprised of 2,900 sq yd of Premier 35mm Fringe Turf and 336 sq yd of Huxley Premier Tee Turf.
The low maintenance requirements of the surface will bring numerous financial and logistical benefits to the club. The course will be playable all year round and will host after-work clubs, kids’ camps, women only training and short game workshops in 2014.
Keith Preston was the architect behind the new course. Preston’s firm has been behind numerous projects in Austria, including designs at Linz Luftenberg Golf Club, Lungau Golf Club and Ebreichsdorf Golf Club.
“Austria’s climate and mountainous terrain doesn’t naturally lend itself to all year round play,” said Markus Strobl, Modern Golf’s head golf professional. “We have solved many challenges by using a high proportion of all-weather surfaces, floodlighting four fairways and creating a state-of-the-art covered training centre. We are very proud of what we’ve created here and I hope that our concept will be adopted around the world.”
