Architect Tilander creates plan to take Nokia River to 36 holes.
The Nokia River club, located near the city of Tampere in Finland is planning to expand to 36 holes and has hired Finnish architect Lassi Pekka Tilander to masterplan the project.
Nokia River opened in 1989, and expanded from its original eighteen holes to a 27 hole complex some years later. Now, a new 50 hectare parcel of land has become available (of which about 30 hectares is usable for golf holes) and the club has contracted Tilander to redesign the complex.
Between nine and twelve new holes can be located on the new land. The club said the aim of the project is to provide the most functional golf centre for members and guests, including one main course with two additional full length nine hole loops and possibly a separate par three course, plus an upgraded practice area.
Design work is already under way and will be finalised by the beginning of summer 2012. A timetable for construction has not been set.
