This reissue of golf journalist – and former PGA Tour caddy – Brad Klein's collection of essays on golf, courses and design is not just a good read, but a terrific one. Klein's easy style has helped many golfers take their first faltering steps into the world of golf architecture, and it is hard to imagine any golfer not learning something from his musings.
As the biographer of Donald Ross – and also a visiting member of Royal Dornoch – Klein's leanings are clear. But he isn't just a traditionalist ranter – he praises the work of modern architects such as Rees Jones, even as he expresses his love for the unspoiled links of Machrihanish.
Now available in paperback for the first time, and with a substantial amount of new material, this enjoyable book is worth a few hours of anyone's time. With its essay structure, too, it makes for comfortable reading. Strongly recommended.
