Local knowledge key to Colligan Golf Design's project at Amarillo, Texas.
The redesign of the Mustang Course at the Ross Rogers Golf Complex in Amarillo, Texas, is complete, with the course set to reopen on 26 April.
The project was carried out by Colligan Golf Design and has been overseen by project architect Trey Kemp, who hails from Amarillo and frequently played the course when growing up.
The project was given a budget of US$3.7 million, but is reportedly coming in at slightly under that figure. Course superintendent James Stow has expressed his pleasure at what the new Mustang course will offer golfers.
“It’s a great golf course with a great design,” Stow told the Amarillo Globe-News. “There are not any golf courses designed like it around here. It’s a unique experience that typically you wont get here in the Panhandle. You’d have to go down to Dallas, or even farther south, to get a golf course shaped with the greens, the fairways and undulation that Mustang offers.”
Features of the redesign include new double greens on holes 2 and 4, 12 and 17, and 13 and 16. Fairways have been significantly widened, bunkers have been relocated so they lie further from the green and new paved cart paths have been put in place.
